About us

The Alabama Department of Transportation Alabama A&M University DBE Supportive Services (ALDOT-AAMU DBE SS) program is part of an ongoing commitment by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to increase the number of women and minority-owned contracting firms doing business in the highway and bridge construction industry. 

The ALDOT-AAMU DBE SS program is housed as a unit within the College of Business and Public Affairs, and functions as the entity responsible for community outreach and engagement of disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) firms. The core mission is to provide counseling, technical assistance and other management services to certified DBE firms in the state of Alabama, while supporting the recruitment of small and minority-owned businesses to become 
certified. To date, the ALDOT-AAMU DBE SS program serves 72 DBEs, including 43 companies in the highway construction industry, and 29 non-highway construction firms.

ALDOT-AAMU DBE Supportive Services does not certify companies to become DBE firms. 

 

Estimated time frame to receive certification: 3 – 6 months 

The process:
? Complete the Uniform Certification Application 
? Site visit by an ALDOT Certification Officer
? Review by Certification Board
? Determination

Specialty ALDOT-AAMU DBE Supportive Services Programs

The LevelUp Project is a pilot project to help DBE firms position themselves to move their business to the next level by assisting with developing a business plan, creating an introductory capabilities statement, and assessing where they need assistance to achieve grown and sustainability. The program is available to ALDOT-certified DBEs in the northern and southern regions of ALDOT’s DBE Supportive Services coverage area, and is limited to up to 20 selected firms. The LevelUP Pilot Project is being hosted by the University of West                Alabama (UWA) DBE Supportive Services and ALDOT-                                                                                   AAMU DBE Supportive Services programs in                                                                                                     partnership with CEI.
