Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning

Planning is an inter-disciplinary field dedicates to improving communities and places. Planners use the tools of quantitative and qualitative analysis combined with participatory methods and theory based practices to design solution to the challenging cities, communities, and region face. These challenges may include economic development, environmental sustainability and social justice.

About This Program

The program prepares students with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to succeed in the planning profession or pursue graduate education in planning or related disciplines. The BSUP program at Alabama A&M University is accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB). The program has small class sizes, individual attention and collaboration with faculty in a department committed to social justice.

Planners with undergraduate degrees often work in entry-level planning positions. Many planners with undergraduate degrees will go on to receive a master’s degree in planning. A degree from a PAB accredited university in planning is the most thorough educational preparation for the planning field.

The program also offers students with an accelerated degree program, called the 4+1 program, that will enable academically qualified students to earn a bachelor's degree and thereafter a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning. These students can expect to graduate sooner than they would in traditional program settings.
