First Year Experience and Freshman Advisors

The First Year Experience Program is designed to assist first-time freshmen successfully transition from high school to college. The First Year Experience (FYE) team provides students with information and support needed to successfully matriculate, persist from one semester to the next, and perform well academically at Alabama A&M.  The Office of First Year Experience provides quality services which include academic advising and mentoring first-time freshmen and advance freshmen.   Advisors work with students to explore their educational and career goals and help students become more familiar with their major requirements.  Academic advisors diligently adhere to the academic policies and procedures established by the university and serve as facilitators for the First-Year Experience courses.

First Year Experience Courses

The First Year Experience courses are one credit hour courses designed to help students better navigate campus life as they transition to Alabama A&M. First-time freshmen and first-time transfer students who enter AAMU with fewer than 30 credit hours are required to take First-Year Experience 101 and 102.  Both courses are required for graduation, except Biology, Chemistry and Physics Teacher Education programs, which only require ORI 101 to graduate.
