At the onset of January 2020, Alabama A&M University began closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Initially, there were no confirmed cases on Alabama A&M University's campus, and the level of public health risk had remained low.  By summer 2020, that was no longer the case.  However, Alabama A&M prepared early for the possibility of a localized outbreak. As a proactive measure, AAMU requested last spring semester that students provide updates on their travel plans beyond the Huntsville-Metro Area by completing a COVID-19 Self-Monitoring Form

Any students experiencing stress or concern about family members in areas impacted by COVID-19 were encouraged to visit the Student Health and Counseling Center.

Moreover, students returning from a high-risk region/city within the past or next 14 days and falling sick (or around family and/or friends) with fever and a cough, or difficulty breathing, were urged to seek medical care immediately by contacting their personal physicians or the Student Health and Counseling Center at 256-372-5601 or 256-372-5800 (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or 256-425-4201 (after-hours and weekends) to speak with a University medical provider. Students were also urged to call ahead to the doctor’s office to inform them of recent travel and symptoms.
