- Is there a maximum amount the M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship will cover?
The scholarship is up to $10,000 per academic year and scholars can receive it for a maximum of two years for a total amount of $20,000. Scholarship recipients are required to work in an Alabama P-12 public school for two years for every year they receive the scholarship.
Back to Top - What does the M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship cover?
While participating in the program the M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship covers tuition and fees (up to $10,000 per year with a total of $20,000 for two years), required textbook reimbursement, passed Praxis II reimbursement, and edTPA voucher. We will also cover professional development and annual association fees.

Back to Top - Who is eligible for the M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship?
Minority men in an approved Alabama A&M University education preparation program that leads to a class B or A certification. Scholarship recipients must be at least a junior, senior, or graduate student in the semester and year of the scholarship award, maintain GPA requirements, and commit to be an educator in Alabama P-12 public schools.

All students who are interested in the M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship must complete an electronic application and upload required documents. The required documents are a personal essay, two letters of recommendation signed by the author, and proof of GPA. We accept M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship applications on a rolling basis. The M.AL.E. Initiative team reviews applications as they are submitted.
Back to Top - How will I know if I am accepted into the M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship program?
All applicants will be notified via email of the M.AL.E. Initiative Team’s decision.
Back to Top - What is the service requirement?
All scholarship recipients are required to work for two years in an Alabama P-12 public school for every one year they receive the scholarship. This is a maximum of four years. The M.AL.E. Initiative team tracks employment verification each year after graduation.
Back to Top - Can I receive the scholarship for only one semester?
Yes, you are still eligible for the scholarship if you meet all the scholarship requirements and will be on internship. There will be a one-year service requirement.
Back to Top - What happens if I do not fulfill my service requirement or decide to no longer become
a teacher in the state of Alabama for a P-12 public school?
The M.AL.E. Initiative Scholarship is a forgivable loan. The loan is forgiven once the scholarship recipient completes their service requirement. If the student no longer wishes to become a teacher or does not work then they are required to pay back the scholarship.
