AAMU’s Radio and TV Stations Launch Interactive Playlist Honoring Black Musical Excellence

WJAB Celebrates Black Music Month with Curated Playlist and Community Features
WJAB 90.9 FM and WJAB-TV are turning up the volume this June with a specially curated interactive playlist in celebration of Black Music Month. The dynamic collection – now streaming on YouTube – highlights the rich legacy and powerful influence of Black artists across a range of genres, including jazz, gospel, hip hop, reggae, and more.
Recognized nationally each June, Black Music Month honors the profound contributions of African American musicians to American culture. First established by President Jimmy Carter on June 7, 1979, the month-long observance continues to serve as a platform for appreciation, reflection, and discovery.
WJAB announcers and staff members handpicked tracks that reflect the depth and diversity of Black music. But this playlist goes beyond just listening – audiences are encouraged to engage with the content by sharing the playlist, commenting on favorite tracks, and suggesting songs to be added throughout the month.
In addition, WJAB is spotlighting Alabama A&M University staff and community members in a series of short videos. These clips – featuring personal reflections and musical inspirations – are available on WJAB’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
WJAB-FM is a non-commercial, 100,000-watt public radio station that features jazz and blues 24 hours a day, seven days a week. WJAB-TV focuses on highlighting the achievements, triumphs, and uplifting stories of students, faculty, and staff on the beautiful campus of Alabama A&M University. It delivers the information you care about from “The Hill.”
The Black Music Month Playlist is available now through June 30 on YouTube.
