Homecoming 2021 Recap

Where does one begin?

There are so many pieces that somehow pull themselves together to form a magical Homecoming experience. That happened again on The Hill, and there was nothing COVID (nor JSU!) could do about it!

From the multiple events masterfully planned by Student Activities to the chaotic precision of the Game Day, Homecoming 2021 will be long remembered. There was the Wreath Laying Ceremony and Unveiling of the Eternal Flame in honor of founder William Hooper Councill.  Even Cooperative Extension scheduled the launching of new mobile units to serve the needs of the community.  Students remembered alumnus Jelani Day with a balloon release on The Quad, following a spirited hour of athleticism via a game of red-light, green-light.

Moving on, the annual Day Party featuring A&M's own Ruben Studdard and Cameo and campus-based Homecoming Parade drew thousands.

Throughout the week, alumni and friends were gearing up to show their spirit and love in other ways.  Among the week's check presentations (most presented at halftime Saturday, Oct. 9) were the following:  Prince Hall Masons - $10,000 (presentation at Councill Memorial Unveiling); Alabama Power - $25,000; Regions Bank - $30,000; Gamma Mu Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., - $118,019.97; Gamma Phi Alumni, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., - $132,778.61; 1970 Golden Class - $230,502.50; and 1971 Golden Class - $280,000.00
