Freshman Samuel Oyediran Awarded $2,000 Redstone Federal Credit Union Scholarship

Alabama A&M University freshman Samuel Oyediran, a Huntsville native majoring in electrical engineering, has been awarded a scholarship from Redstone Federal Credit Union to support his studies. He is one of only 24 students selected statewide for the honor.

For Oyediran, the recognition feels both affirming and inspiring. “I was a student teller in Redstone Federal Credit Union’s Schools Program at my high school,” he explained. “When the scholarship opened, my teacher encouraged me and the other seniors in the program to apply. I was later notified by phone call that I had earned it. I was both excited and pleasantly shocked when I learned I had received the scholarship.”

Scholarships are not new to Oyediran, who has also been recognized with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Scholarship, the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) Scholarship, the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee Scholarship, and the Alabama A&M Merit Scholarship. At AAMU, he is already deeply engaged in academic and student life as a member of the Honors Program, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and NSBE.

His connection to Alabama A&M runs deep. Oyediran’s eldest brother Oluwatimilehin is an AAMU graduate who earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science. He now works as a network technician with Boldyn, currently serving on the AAMU campus. Following in his brother’s footsteps, Oyediran said his own decision to attend AAMU was rooted in both trust and ambition. “I chose AAMU because I’ve seen many people start here and go on to achieve great things. I believe it’s a school that genuinely wants to see its students succeed in every aspect of their careers.”

Now fully immersed in campus life, Oyediran is embracing the opportunities AAMU offers. “My time on campus has been welcoming, making the adjustment to college life much more seamless,” he said. “This year, I’m looking forward to learning more in my electrical engineering courses, getting more involved on campus, and building connections that will help me grow both academically and personally.”

Alongside his studies, Oyediran is already applying his skills in a professional setting. He works as a Member Service Representative at Redstone Federal Credit Union’s Alabama A&M branch, where he gains valuable real-world experience.

Reflecting on his journey, Oyediran said he is proud to be part of the Bulldog community. “What I enjoy most about being a Bulldog is the sense of pride that comes with being part of this community. I’m grateful to Redstone Federal Credit Union for supporting my education through this scholarship, and I’m even more grateful to now work with them, gaining experience that will help me grow personally and professionally.”
